Former England international Jack Wilshere is in discussions with MLS club Colorado Rapids regarding a potential role as their new head coach.

Wilshere, currently managing Arsenal’s Under-18s, has piqued the interest of the Rapids following the departure of Robin Fraser last month.

Although Wilshere is content with his current role at Arsenal, there’s an understanding that other clubs would eventually seek his services. Both Arsenal and the Rapids fall under the ownership of Stan Kroenke’s Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.

Wilshere, who took over as Arsenal’s Under-18 manager in the summer of 2022, has made quite an impression. In his first season, he led the young Gunners to the FA Youth Cup final. Academy manager Per Mertesacker speaks highly of Wilshere and acknowledges his ambition to one day coach a first team.

Rapids formally approached Arsenal for Wilshere’s interview, where he left a positive impression. The 31-year-old, with a decade-long playing career at Arsenal, aspires to senior management and has garnered interest from multiple clubs.

Colorado’s MLS campaign this season has been challenging, with the team securing only five wins out of 32 games. They are placed bottom of the Western Conference table – nine points behind second-bottom LA Galaxy.

Wilshere’s playing career was marked by injury setbacks, but he’s been making a name for himself in the coaching world since retiring last year. His potential move to the MLS could mark a significant step forward in his budding managerial career.
