What Happened In United Vs. Spurs?

Manchester United headed into Sunday afternoon’s fixture languishing 8 points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table and in desperate need of a win.

The Red Devils got off to the perfect start after Marcus Rashford’s driving run set up Rasmus Hojlund to smash the ball into the roof of the net in the 3rd minute.

Unfortunately for Erik ten Hg’s side it didn’t take long for Spurs to equalise. In the 19th minute Richarlison latched onto Pedro Porro’s dangerous corner and glanced a header past the static Andre Onana in goal.

Despite Ange Postecoglu’s side dominating proceedings, Marcus Rashford scored in the 40th minute to give Manchester United a surprise lead heading into the break.

However, it took the north London side under a minute to equalise after half-time, after Rodrigo Bentancur ghosted into the Manchester United penalty area and smashed the ball past the, once again, unmoving Andre Onana.

The scores remained the same until full-time, with Erik ten Hag likely the happier of the two managers after a commanding Spurs display.

Having lead the game twice, Manchester United conceded two soft equalisers and YouTuber Mark Goldbridge was visibly frustrated with his side’s performance.

Speaking on The United Stand Youtube channel, Goldbridge said: “It’s the same old rubbish from Manchester United.

“United are s*** at defending crosses, United are s*** at picking up midfield runners, United are crap at starting second halves.

“As I said on the watch along, Ange [Postecoglu] could have taken the week off and said ‘target them on crosses, run away from midfielders and let’s really go for them at the start of the second half’ and Spurs would have got what they got.

“We’re so predictably naive and it’s incredible that we’re into January and we’re still doing these things.”

Goldbridge then went on to discuss the return of Lisandro Martinez to the side along with the upturn in striker Rasmus Hojlund’s form, saying: “To start on two positives, I felt when Martinez came on we were a lot better defensively and I also think Rasmus [Hojlund] with a goal and an assist has to be a strong man of the match contender.”

Manchester United now sit in 7th in the Premier League table, 8 points off of the Champions league spots.
