BANKER: 5:00 Chelmsford: WHIP CRACKER 2/5

This Richard Hughes juvenile made a very pleasing debut at Newmarket at the end of last month (2nd) and with the expected improvement should be very hard to beat. This Cracksman colt, who has a nice draw in 3, will again have top jockey Oisin Murphy riding and with some fair-looking sorts behind him the last day from the Aidan O’Brien and William Haggas the form looks solid to suggest he can get off the mark at the second time of asking.

EACH-WAY: 3:20 Brighton: HABANERO STAR 6/1

Six-time winner from the Gay Kelleway and looks to have a leading chance of going close at a track we know suits this 6 year-old mare. She’s won at the seaside venue in the past and was also third here in her last two outings – her form figures at Brighton read a consistent 1-2-3-4-3-3. She acts well on soft ground too and top young jockey Billy Loughnane, who has ridden the horse before, has been booked again.

LAY OF THE DAY: 6:00 GULMARG 9/4

Not the best race, which suggests this contest could have many chances. The likely favourite is the Sean Woods runner Gulmarg, who has a consistent profile of late – but without winning. The handicapper has relented by just a pound from his recent 4th at Kempton, but this rating is still 5lbs below his last win, which also now came 13 runs ago and over a year back (Aug 22). He’s also still to record a win on any AW track (4 runs), so with all this in mind doesn’t look great value at the prices.
