This Saturday, 15 October, the horse racing NAP of the Day, according to SportsLens experts, is Eternal Pearl. She is one of three selections running on QIPCO British Champions Day 2022 at Ascot. Next Best, meanwhile, is Waterville in the Long Distance Cup. Tenebrism is worth an each way bet.

These are our tipsters’ top three bets at this major horse racing meeting that celebrates the best Flat horses:
- 1:25 Ascot – WATERVILLE (NB) in the Long Distance Cup @ 7/2 with 888Sport
- 2:00 Ascot – TENEBRISM (EW) in the Champions Sprint Stakes @ 12/1 with 888Sport
- 2:40 Ascot – ETERNAL PEARL (NAP) in the Fillies & Mares Stakes @ 9/2 with 888Sport
Why will horse racing NAP of the Day Eternal Pearl win?
Charlie Appleby and William Haggas are duking it out for the trainers’ title, and the former’s ETERNAL PEARL appeals in the Group 1 Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (2:40). Seven of the last nine winners have been three-year-olds, so the daughter of Frankel fits the age profile at Ascot races today in this 1m 4f contest.
Appleby boasts a 22 per cent strike rate with his runners at this track this season too. If punters had backed them all blind on the best betting sites, then it would’ve yielded a tidy £15.88 profit off a £1 level stake. In Eternal Pearl, Godolphin’s retained trainer has a progressive filly.
After completing a hat-trick in a Deauville Group 3, she followed-up in the same grade at Newmarket races under a penalty. Eternal Pearl is clearly better than that, so steps up in class. With champion jockey William Buick aboard as usual, she’s our horse racing NAP of the Day for 15 October.

Progressive Waterville NB in Long Distance Cup at Ascot
With favourite Trueshan looking vulnerable and connections of Eldar Eldarov unsure whether to run the St Leger hero in the 2m Long Distance Cup (1:25), WATERVILLE is a very interesting alternative. Trainer Aidan O’Brien has won this Group 2 race three times since it moved to Ascot.
It looks highly significant that Waterville’s powerful connections step him up in class so dramatically off the back of a cosy first to last victory in the Irish Cesarewitch. Judged on that horse racing result, this three-year-old Camelot colt looked a pattern performer masquerading as a handicapper.
Coolmore and O’Brien could’ve run Waterville in the English Cesarewitch yet turn him out here instead. Two miles and further definitely looks his trip, so he’s next best to our horse racing NAP of the Day in Eternal Pearl. A £10 punt on Waterville with 888Sport returns £45 at his current odds of 7/2 if he makes the step up in grade.

Tenebrism an each way play in Champions Sprint Stakes
We haven’t seen TENEBRISM tackle 6f since her effortless Cheveley Park Stakes success last autumn. She drops back to this distance for the Group 1 Champions Sprint Stakes for O’Brien (2:00). Long-term followers of SportsLens will know I put her up for the Commonwealth Cup in the ante post betting only to see her try a mile again at the Royal meeting.
After not getting home on desperately heavy ground at Longchamp last time out, coming back in trip makes sense for Tenebrism. This three-year-old Caravaggio filly is all speed and, provided no significant rain falls, she looks a bit of each way value on horse racing betting sites to hit the frame at Ascot. Ryan Moore again takes the ride.
Tenebrism joins fellow filly Eternal Pearl, our horse racing NAP of the Day this Saturday, as one to back with 888Sport on British Champions Day. That firm pay extra places on this sprint contest. A £10 wager on any of our three selections qualifies new customers for £40 in bonuses with more details to follow…
