These are our horse racing experts’ fancies on a terrific day:
- 3:20 Doncaster – KINROSS (NAP) in the Park Stakes @ 5/4 with 888Sport
- 3:55 Doncaster – EMILY DICKINSON (EW) in the St Leger @ 18/1 with 888Sport
- 4:10 Curragh – ROSSCARBERY (EW) in the Irish St Leger @ 12/1 with 888Sport
- 5:05 Doncaster – HMS President (NB) in the Mallard Handicap @ 5/1 with 888Sport
Why will horse racing NAP of the Day Kinross win?
The first of three tipster picks from Doncaster races today is KINROSS over his specialist’s distance of 7f in the Group 2 Park Stakes (3:20). Trained by Ralph Beckett, a depleted field and soft ground only enhance the chances of this five-year-old son of Kingman. Kinross is now a proven performer in the grade after scoring in some style at York’s Ebor Festival last time out.
That was a second career Group 2 from Marc Chan’s gelding. Frankie Dettori again takes the ride and the long home straight on Town Moor should suit Kinross. Defections after final declarations mean top betting sites in the UK have cut his odds, but he has a favourite’s chance. Kinross thus rates our horse racing NAP of the Day for 11 September at 5/4.
Emily Dickinson clearly overpriced in St Leger market
In the final classic of the season, the extended 1m 6f St Leger (3:55), EMILY DICKINSON has no stamina doubts at all. Others in the Doncaster Group 1 field must prove theirs, so this Irish raider from the Aidan O’Brien stable looks overpriced to spring a shock. The way that Emily Dickinson has shaped in two race results over a mile-and-three-quarters suggests she may be even better at a little bit further.
After chasing home another of experts’ picks, Rosscarbery (and more on her below) at Leopardstown, the Irish Oaks fourth ate up the ground at Goodwood in the Lillie Langtry. Ryan Moore gave Emily Dickinson far too much to do the last day. With a longer home straight and a more galloping track here, the 18/1 price about her with 888Sport looks real each way value.

Rosscarbery has each way Curragh claims behind Kyprios
While the Irish St Leger (4:10) looks very much like Kyprios’s to lose, meanwhile, ROSSCARBERY is one for the frame in-behind. Of the three fillies and mares in the line-up for this 1m 6f Group 1 open to older horses as well as three-year-olds, Paddy Twomey’s charge comes out on top. She’s also joint second best behind the favourite on adjusted ratings.
Rosscarbery, a daughter of Sea The Stars out of a German-bred Authorized mare, now steps back up in trip after a fine effort in defeat at the highest level over 1m 2f in France. Double figure prices on horse racing betting sites look generous, given her win over Emily Dickinson conceding 17lb at this distance at Leopardstown.
HMS President NB in closing Doncaster Mallard Handicap
In the last of nine races at Doncaster, the Mallard Handicap over an extended 1m 6f (5:05), HMS President is 1lb lower than when runner-up in this race last year. The Henry Ponsonby owned gelding’s trainer, Eve Johnson Houghton, books bang in-form rider and champion jockey-elect William Buick for the ride again.
After three very solid second place finishes in as many recent starts, HMS President won’t mind a softer surface. He shaped at Newmarket races last time out as though this kind of test would be just perfect. A £10 bet on him at odds of 5/1 returns £60. Punters could also back HMS President each way and break even if he’s in the first three. He’s thus NB to our horse racing NAP of the Day this Sunday.
