In a bid to resurrect his Manchester United career, club captain Harry Maguire is reportedly undertaking an intensive pre-season regime that has seen him train three times a day, along with the help of Chelsea hero Ricardo Carvalho.

Recent reports have indicated that Erik Ten Hag may opt for a change in personnel for the Manchester United captaincy next season, with Bruno Fernandes the most likely candidate.

Harry Maguire endured a difficult season last term, with Ten Hag largely deeming him surplus to requirements after the arrival of Lisandro Martinez. His unwillingness to place full faith in Maguire was perhaps most evident when selecting Luke Shaw, a natural left-back, to play in the centre of defence ahead of him.

Wide-spread reports have suggested Maguire is one of 11 players who could make way this summer, as United look to generate money from outgoings before eyeing fresh acquisitions.

However, the England international appears intent on fighting for his spot ahead of the new season, and has been training away from Carrington in the searing heat of Portugal.

It is thought that the 30-year-old has been training as many as three times a day while under the careful guidance of former Chelsea and Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho.

Carvalho is heralded as one of the best defenders to ever grace the game, picking up a long list of accolades including UEFA’s Best Defender of the Year award in 2004 as well as adding Champions League and Premier League triumphs.

Maguire featured just 16 times for the Red Devils in the league last season, compared to 30 appearances the season prior. He will hoping that Carvalho can impart some wisdom, particularly on how to deal with transitioning into his 30’s after the former Portuguese international secured a move to Real Madrid towards the end of his glittering career.
