Gordon Elliott Has Been A Trainer Since Age Of 28
Based in County Meath, Gordon Elliott has been training horses since he was 28, taking out his licence in 2006. Just one year after that, he defied all odds when his first ever Grand National entry Silver Birch won the famous Aintree contest at odds of 33/1 (see below).
Elliott has gone on to win another two Grand Nationals with Tiger Roll (2018 & 2019) becoming the first horse since the legendary Red Rum to win the race twice.
The 46-year-old never had much family background in racing, and got himself into it himself, and started working for trainer Tony Martin at the age of 13 during school holidays and on weekends.
Elliott eventually took out his jockey licence as an amateur when he was 16, and went on to ride a total of 200 point-to-point winners and 46 on the racecourse.
His biggest success as a rider came when he won the Punchestown Champion Bumper on King’s Road for Nigel Twiston-Davies. He also rode five winners in America and has been known to send horses over when the opportunity arises.
Also enjoying the Cheltenham Festival as a trainer, Elliott has had 37 over time and even won top trainer at the meeting in 2017 and 2018 and those same years took home the Cross Country Chase back-to-back along with plenty more.
