West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca has said despite being happy in London, he dreams of a move back to his home in Rome where he could play for Jose Mourinho.

Scamacca was born in Rome and the 24-year-old has described moving back to his home city as a dream move, with Jose Mourinho coaching the side he left during his academy days.

“I have always reasoned with my heart, so you know what are the two colours of my heart. But now I’m a West Ham player and, despite rumours, I feel good here.”

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the striker’s future in London, after Scamacca struggled to make much of an impression for the Hammers in a difficult season.

Scamacca played just 16 Premier League matches last year and the entire second half of his season was spent watching on from the sidelines with an injury.

With the rumours flying around suggesting Scamacca could be destined for a move away this summer, the Italian forward was full of admiration for current Roma boss Jose Mourinho.

“For me, Rome is home. And Totti was my idol as a child. And what player in the world wouldn’t dream of being coached by Mourinho?”

Despite a poor season in the Premier League, West Ham were able to win the Europa Conference League last season which has qualified them for next year’s Europa League.

Scamacca’s comments come during a difficult time for Roma, as Tammy Abraham is facing the remainder of 2023 sidelined with an injury of his own.

With their star striker injured for the foreseeable future, Roma are reportedly interested in securing Scamacca on loan this season with an option to buy.
