England came from behind to secure their place at next summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany after beating Italy 3-1 on Tuesday night and Gareth Southgate says there is more to come from his team.

Having recorded 13 points from their opening five games in Group C, England needed to simply avoid defeat against Italy on Tuesday night to confirm their spot in Germany next year.

Things didn’t start so well at Wembley for Southgate’s side as former West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca opened the scoring for the Azzurri.

However, it wasn’t too long before the Three Lions levelled the game. Jude Bellingham was fouled in the box by Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Harry Kane made no mistake from the spot to net his 60th goal for his country.

The contest was 1-1 at half-time and England knew they’d be in the pot for Germany if they could see the game out and they certainly did that.

Marcus Rashford put the Three Lions ahead just before the hour mark after finishing off a sublime team move created by Jude Bellingham.

Kane eventually scored his second with a cool solo effort topping off an excellent performance from England.

Southgate was speaking after the game and believes his side are capable of producing more: “We need to make sure we are one of the top seeds next month,” he said. “We need to win our next two games, we want to be in control of that.

“We need to keep building. There is much more to come from this team. This was the toughest qualifying group, with the seedings.

“People have criticised us for not beating the top teams enough. But we have performed really well.”
