Arsenal striker, Gabriel Jesus, will miss the opening weeks of the season after undergoing knee surgery. We’ve got the latest on the Jesus injury.

With the Premier League season nearing, and a clash with Man City in the Community Shield on Sunday, Arsenal have lost a key man.

Their main striker, Jesus, will miss the start of the season. The Brazilian underwent a knee operation to resolve an ongoing issue that meant he missed the majority of the second half of the season.

On the injury, Mikel Arteta said:

“Unfortunately, he had a little procedure this morning.

“He’s had some discomfort in his knee that caused him some issues so they had to go in. It’s not something major but he’s going to be out for a few weeks.

“It’s a big blow because we had him back to his best, especially with the way he played against Barcelona and he was in good condition but unfortunately we lost him.

“We had to look at it and we had to make a decision and the best one is to protect the player and get him back as quick as possible. We decided to do it.”

Jesus Injury: What Does It Mean To Arsenal?

The Jesus injury means Arsenal will be without the man who scored 11 goals in the Premier League last season. He started the campaign in fine form, but struggled with his fitness in the second half of the season.

The Jesus injury will also mean Arteta needs to rethink his side. Their only other out-and-out strikers are Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun. The two are exciting young strikers from their academy, but the latter has been linked with a move away all summer.

Arteta might decide to go for Kai Havertz as the focal point of their attack. That position didn’t work out too well for Havertz at Chelsea so Arteta may be hesitant.

No timeframe has been put on his return. Arsenal fans will be hoping he’s back by after the first international break.
