Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor has called for Manchester United to pay for fans’ tickets and travel expenses after their ‘unacceptable’ 7-0 defeat to Liverpool at the weekend.

Manchester United were on the end of their most embarrassing defeat of the season on Sunday, as they were battered 7-0 at Anfield by Liverpool.

Braces from Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, as well as a goal from Roberto Firmino condemned the Red Devils to a heavy defeat.

It was completely out of character for a previously in-form Erik ten Hag side.

United had lost just one match after returning from the World Cup prior to Sunday evening’s tie at Anfield.

Ten Hag’s side were still considered as title challengers before the fixture, but are now priced at 40/1 to lift the Premier League trophy at the end of the campaign.

Gary Neville and Roy Keane slammed their former side at full-time. Keane labelled the result and performance as “shocking” and “embarrassing”.

Another ex-pro that has now come out and done the same is Gabby Agbonlahor.

Agbonlahor’s Comments

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Villa front-man said that United should be compensating fans for their terrible showing.

“You can lose 7-0, you can lose 6-2, 6-1, but not against your rivals,” said Agbonlahor.

“You don’t do that, it’s not acceptable. Those poor fans who have gone to the game and left, Manchester United players should definitely be paying for their tickets, travel, whatever it costs because you can’t lose 7-0 to a rival.”

Bruno Fernandes received plenty of criticism for his antics throughout the match, but Agbonlahor thinks that Antony should be contributing more too.

“Everyone is digging out Fernandes, what about Antony? Antony if you are not scoring goals and not assisting, three goals this season in the Premier League, zero assists,” he said.

“The least you have got to do as a winger is track back, the least you have got to do is run around and help your full-backs.

“He is doing neither and I can’t believe he spent as long as he did on the pitch on Sunday. There’s players that need to be spoken to by Ten Hag and Fernandes is one of them.

“It can happen in one-off games but not against your rivals, they should be tight games. If I had lost 7-0 to Birmingham City we would have been chased out of the stadium, you would be hiding at your dad’s house, not even in your own house!”
