Fulham are showing interest in Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse after the side were relegated to the Championship and emerge as serious contenders in the race to sign the 28-year-old.

Fulham Show Heavy Interest In James Ward-Prowse

The free-kick specialist is expected to leave Saints this summer following his side’s relegation from the Premier League and has attracted interest from plenty of clubs in the top flight including Liverpool. However the Cottagers are now the front-runners to sign him. Ward-Prowse has also reportedly turned down an offer from Brentford.

Southampton are likely to ask for up to £30m for their captain who still has three years remaining on his contract.

West Ham are targeting Fulham’s Joao Palhinha to replace Declan Rice, so Ward-Prowse could be seen as the ideal replacement for the Portuguese powerhouse.

A move to the Cottagers for Ward-Prowse would see him link up with former Saints team-mate Harrison Reed, who he came through the academy at St Mary’s with.

Ward-Prowse has scored 55 goals in 409 appearances for Southampton, and is currently one free-kick away from equalling David Beckham’s Premier League record 18. There’s no surprise that the 11-cap England international is eyeing an immediate return to the top flight.

It’ll be an emotional exit from the south coast for Ward-Prowse after coming through the academy and making his debut in 2011.
