Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has outlined his future intentions amid transfer interest from Manchester United, describing Barca as the “club of his dreams”.

Frenkie de Jong has stated his desire to remain at Barcelona this summer after saying a move to long-term admirers Manchester United is unlikely.

The Dutchman has long been of interest to the Red Devils, but a deal was never struck with the Blaugrana for his services.

He has instead become a vital part of Xavi’s team in Catalunya, and has played a key role in Barca’s chase for the La Liga title.

The midfielder inspired his side to a crucial El Clasico victory yesterday evening. An injury time goal from Franck Kessie, and a man of the match performance from de Jong saw Barca win 2-1 at the Nou Camp, as they moved 12 points clear at the top of the Spanish top flight.

Frenkie de Jong’s Comments

In his post-match press conference, the 25-year-old was asked about his future, and whether he would join Man United in the summer.

“No, I don’t think so. You never know of course. But I’m very happy in Barcelona!” he told Ziggo Sport.

“From the summer until now it has improved for me here. I play almost every game, it makes me feel so satisfied. I am a better player now than what I was when I signed for Barça.”

Speaking ahead of the Clasico, de Jong told TV3 that Barcelona has “always been the club of his dreams” and that he wants to stay in Catalunya for “many years”.

“Hopefully I can play in the new Camp Nou. Barcelona has always been the club of my dreams and I want to stay here for many years. For me, the Camp Nou is the most beautiful stadium in the world. The plans for the stadium are very good,

“Playing in a Clasico is a very difficult feeling to explain. When I was a child, I dreamed of doing it with Barca and now I can do it. It’s a very important game for the fans and also for the players, a game that can decide a league.”
