Frankie Dettori, who hit the headlines at the weekend when landing the Qipco 2000 Guineas on Chaldean, is back in action this week – this time up at the three-day Chester May Meeting, where he’s got two booked rides today (Wednesday 10th May).

Not for the first time in his career Frankie Dettori stole the show last weekend after landing the 2000 Guineas on the Andrew Balding-trained Chaldean. The horse will now likely be heading to Royal Ascot for the St James’s Palace Stakes on 20th June, where he’s already a warm odds-on favourite with the best UK bookmaker sites.
However, before that horse racing fans get the chance to see Frankie, who is riding in his farewell season, in action at Chester this midweek as last week’s Guineas hero has some select rides on the Roodee.

2:40 – Weatherbys Digital Solutions Cheshire Oaks (For The Robert Sangster Memorial Cup) (Listed) (Fillies) Cl1 (3yo) 1m3½f ITV4: LUCKIN BREW @ 9/2 with BetGoodwin (non-runner)
Trainer Ralph Beckett has never won the Cheshire Oaks, but he’ll be hoping for some ‘Frankie Magic’ this Wednesday as the pocket Italian teams up to ride 33/1 Epsom Oaks hope Luckin Brew.
We last saw this 3 year-old filly run a neck second in a Listed race at Pontefract, so you feel she’ll need to improve again here. She’s, however, only had four career runs and the longer trip here could certainly eke out a bit more.
She’ll face a stern test from the Aidan O’Brien runner Savethelastdance, who was a nice winner at Leopardstown last time out. The Ballydoyle yard have also won this race 7 times and need just one more to become the all-time record holder in the Cheshire Oaks. O’Brien is currently tied with Barry Hills.
In recent years, 2 of the last 20 Cheshire Oaks winners when onto win the Epsom Oaks the following month – Enable (2017) and Light Shift (2007).
If Frankie can cause the mini upset, he’ll be riding his third Cheshire Oaks winner, after taking the Listed race in 2006 on Time On and in 2017 on his beloved Enable.

3:15 – Boodles Chester Vase Stakes (Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) Cl1 (3yo) 1m4½f ITV4: ARREST @ 8/13 with BetGoodwin
Arrest was meant to be in action at Sandown recently but the meeting was called off. This Epsom Derby 16/1 shot has been rerouted here for the Chester Vase – a race that last year’s winner Changingoftheguard landed before running 5th in the Derby. The last horse to win both races was Ruler Of The World in 2013.
Arrest will head into Wednesday’s Chester race as the hot favourite having been last seen running a head second in the Group One Criterium de Saint-Cloud in France. That race came over 1m2f on heavy ground and so this step up in trip for this classy Frankel colt should be within rage.
He’ll be fully expected by many to win this with ease, before heading to Epsom on June 3rd for a tilt at the Derby – a race Frankie has won twice during his career.
Surprisingly, it’s a race the Gosden yard are yet to win, as it’s been a race the Aidan O’Brien yard have dominated with 10 wins over the years. O’Brien runs one of Arrest’s biggest threat Adelaide River, with Ryan Moore, who has steered home a massive 6 of the last 9 winners of the Chester Vase.
Frankie will be hunting only his second win in the Chester Vase, with his sole success coming back in 2003 with the Clive Brittain-trained Dutch Gold.
