Domestic football returns this evening, and although one of the most chaotic summer windows in recent memory shows no signs of letting up, we are taking a look at some of the best FPL new signings who could be preferable for Fantasy managers next season.

FPL New Signings 2023/24

Moussa Diaby – Aston Villa (£6.5m)

Aston Villa’s exceptional recruitment this summer continued with the addition of Moussa Diaby last week.

The Unai Emery-led revolution at Villa Park culminated in qualification to the Europa League last season, and the club have more than backed the Spaniard in the market as a result, bringing in a succession of elite-level names.

Diaby, who has previously been the subject of enquiries from Arsenal, Newcastle and Chelsea, represents a considerable attacking threat, both as a goalscorer and a provider.

His most effective season in 2021/22 – 17 goals and 14 assists – was followed by 25 goal involvements in 48 appearances last season, which is reflective of his leading role at now-former club Bayer Leverkusen.

He is just one of three players in Europe’s top five leagues to reach double figures for goals and assists in each of the past three seasons, alongside Lionel Messi and Bruno Fernandes.

At £6.5m, he arrives in the top-flight at an eye-catching price for FPL managers.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 1 Picks: FPL Selections to Get the Season Up and Running

Harvey Barnes – Newcastle (£6.5m)

Talking of generous prices, Newcastle’s latest recruit Harvey Barnes could well prove to be a shrewd selection for Fantasy players.

His quiet consistency for Leicester amid a dismal relegation battle went under the radar somewhat, as he fired in 13 goals in the league last year.

In fact, Barnes had been a major contributor for the Foxes, hitting double figures for total goal involvements in each of the past three seasons.

The 25-year-old can thrive in a Newcastle team whose full-throttle, direct style of play suits his personal traits far more than Leicester’s careful build-up.

James Maddison – Tottenham (£7.5m)

Tottenham’s midfield last season held an alarming lack of creativity, with the middle of the park largely made up of box-to-box types such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and and Yves Bissouma.

New manager Ange Postecoglu’s instance on deploying a 4-3-3 formation lends itself to James Maddison’s style, who will be able to slot in just behind the forward line which every Spurs fan will be hoping features Harry Kane.

The former Leicester man was, much like Barnes, a shimmering light among an otherwise dwindling team. He has been a fan favourite amongst FPL managers in recent years, clocking in with 130 points or more in four of the past seasons with the Foxes.

Maddison was involved in a goal every 130 minutes last year, and his start-of-season price represents a £0.5m drop from 2022/23 which is certainly enough evidence to include him in this list.

Fantasy Premier League Bargains to Sign For the 2023/24 Season

Andre Onana – Manchester United (£5m)

Given Manchester United kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League last season, their decision to upgrade the goalkeeper spot with Inter Milan’s Andre Onana may make them even more solid.

For all his hair-raising moments with the ball at his feet, Onana is exactly what United have been craving in the build-up, and his exceptional Champions League final performance as Inter’s ‘sweeper keeper’ was a sneak-peek into what we can expect next season.

The Cameroonian made the most saves in the competition on the way to that final, and also registered a better save percentage in the league than his predecessor David De Gea, who kept the most clean sheets of any keeper last year.

It is also worth taking into account FPL bonus points – metrics such as saves and pass completion are ways in which keepers can benefit from extra points. For context, Onana averaged 38 passes per game with an accuracy of 79.2%.
