Joe Cole has made a big prediction about Erling Haaland after he scored yet again last night against Bayern Munich.

Speaking while commentating for BT Sport, the former Chelsea and Liverpool player has said he thinks Haaland will easily get 1000 career goals.

Cole’s comments came after Haaland scored his 45 in all competitions for Man City against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. It was a goal that broke yet another record. Haaland’s scored the most goals in all competitions of any Premier League player. But he’ll have his eye on smashing even more records.

How Likely Is Joe Cole’s Prediction?

At just 22-years-old Haaland already has 180 club goals and 23 goals for Norway. With a total of 203 at such a young age, it’s hard to imagine he won’t easily reach that mark.

Haaland will have at least another ten years in the game. As long as he can avoid any major injuries, Cole might be spot on with his prediction.

Even though time is on his side, it’s something no one has done before, officially. I say officially because Pele and Josef Bican both claimed to have score 1000+ but not all their goals are recognised by FIFA. Pele had an impressive 757 and Bican recorded 805.

The current official all-time top scorer is Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo has 834, and counting, during his career. Despite never seeming to age his career is slowly coming to an end, meaning he’ll fall just short of 1000.

If Cole is to be right and Haaland is going to be the first man to break the 1000 goal mark, Haaland will certainly be known as the greatest goalscorer of all time.
