Flooring Porter has won the last two runnings of the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and after being off injured since December, connections are hopeful he’ll make the 2023 race.

Flooring Porter ‘On Target’ For Cheltenham Stayers’ Hurdle Defence

The 2021 and 2022 Stayers’ Hurdle winner Flooring Porter has been off the track since the end of December with injury. His Cheltenham bid was, therefore, in doubt but the good news coming out of the Gavin Cromwell camp is he’s improved.

The two-time champ has only been a 50-50 chance back in January but has responded well to treatment and did a pleasing piece of work on Monday.

Cromwell told the Racing Post: “We are delighted with Flooring Porter. The horse worked on Monday and he went well so we are happy with that. “Has seemed to come out of it well too so we are on target for the Stayers’ at the moment.”

He was last seen running fourth to another Stayers’ Hurdle hope – Home By The Lee. While the Flooring Porter is now three races without a win – his last success being at the Festival.

Flooring Porter has Cheltenham odds of 6/1 with BetUK to win the Stayers’ Hurdle for a third time. At this stage, Blazing Khal is the Stayers’ Hurdle favourite @ 11/4, with Teahupoo next best @ 3/1.

Flooring Porter Will Be Looking To Join Other Three-Time Stayers’ Hurdler Winners Big Buck’s and Inglis Drever?

If Flooring Porter can make the race and IF he can win again, he’ll be joining some equine Cheltenham Festival greats.

Big Buck’s was a four-time winner of the Stayers’ Hurdle between 2009 and 2012, while Inglis Drever took the honours three times between 2005 and 2008.
