Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United remain interested in Jurrien Timber, as Erik ten Hag is a “big fan” of the Ajax defender.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United remain interested in signing Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.

Erik ten Hag is said to be a “big fan” of the 21-year-old, and is believed to have tried persuading the Dutchman to join United last summer.

Dutch media claim that the youngster rejected the move to Manchester. Timber is said to have wanted guaranteed game time ahead of the World Cup, in an attempt to force himself into the Netherlands starting lineup.

Under Louis van Gaal, the defender started four out five World Cup games out in Qatar.

He has featured 35 times for Ajax already this season, even chipping in with a goal and a couple of assists.

His rejection hasn’t deterred United however, with the Red Devils looking to possibly make another move for the defender this summer.

Fabrizio Romano Comments

Speaking to Caught Offside, Romano revealed that ten Hag remains a fan of Timber.

“Erik ten Hag is always been big fan of Jurrien Timber but there’s nothing new or concrete at this stage,” he said.

“Nothing to report about Manchester United, as of now.

“Ajax don’t even want to speak to clubs about Timber now, so it will be something to see in June – for sure, Timber signed a short contract last year because his dream remains to join another top European club in the future.”

Timber himself has even hinted at a possible move away from the Netherlands in recent times.

The Dutchman said: “Transfer? You never know what crosses your path. This summer I will look at my options and make a decision.

“I feel good at Ajax, that’s important for now. Last summer there was interest, but I chose to stay at Ajax.”
