Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson has reportedly agreed to a new long-term deal with the club, snubbing Manchester United to remain on the south coast.

Ferguson is enjoying a breakout season with the Seagulls and has four goals in seven starts this season, quickly becoming one of the hottest names in England’s top flight.

Manchester United were amongst the interest parties of signing the Irishman this summer, but he has reaffirmed his commitment to Brighton – the club who beat Liverpool to his signature in early 2021.

According to Mike McGrath, Ferguson has agreed to a new long-term deal under Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton and will remain at the club for the forseeeable future.

Manchester United’s striker dilemma with the consistent nature of Anthony Martial’s injuries, Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit and the arrival of Wout Weghorst from Burnley has only increased throughout the season.

Whilst proving to be a capable backup at times, Weghorst is not a long-term option and United will face that reality this summer. Alongside Ferguson, Tottenham’s Harry Kane has also been suggested as an option.

Ferguson and his club can now fully focus on making a firm push to play in Europe next season. Currently sitting eighth but holding at least two games in hand over Liverpool, Aston Villa and Spurs above, Brighton are in pole position.

Despite a heartbreaking loss in the FA Cup semi-final last weekend, which Ferguson missed due to injury, Brighton have a difficult task on hand to beat the likes of United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle in the run-in.

According to Premier League betting sites, the Seagulls are an odds-on price of 2/5 to finish in the top six and introduce European football to the club for the first time in history.
