16-year-old starlet Ethan Nwaneri has committed his future to boyhood club Arsenal by signing on scholarship terms, as well as agreeing to sign a pro deal when he turns 17 despite major transfer interest.

Arsenal have been dealt a major boost after reports have emerged claiming that Ethan Nwaneri has committed his future to the London club.

Islington-born Nwaneri became the youngest player in Premier League history last season, as he made an appearance from the bench against Brentford aged 15 years and 181 days old.

And now, after rumours of a potential move away from the club, he looks set to extend his stay at the Emirates.

Manchester City had been tipped to sign the 16-year-old, and it was even reported that they were increasingly confident in securing his signature.

David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed the latest on Nwaneri on Thursday afternoon, confirming that there was major interest in the youngster, however he never wanted to leave.

“Ethan Nwaneri has committed future to Arsenal by signing scholarship terms, as well as agreeing to a pro deal when turns 17.” Ornstein confirmed.

Major interest from other clubs but the 16-year-old never wanted to leave – lifelong Arsenal fan and Islington born and bred. Huge boost for the Gunners.”

Nwaneri has been a standout performer for Arsenal’s youth sides, particularly breaking through last season.

Turning out for both the Under-21s and the Under-18s, Nwaneri has been described as an ‘exceptional’ talent by U18s coach and former Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere.

In 26 appearances for both sides this term, he scored six goals and assisted four times.

His performances have also seen him gain international recognition, featuring for the England Under-17 side at the recent U17 European Championship, where he scored in their opening fixture.

Nwaneri typically plays as an attacking midfielder, but can also play on both wings, as well as striker.
