Energumene Champion Chase Odds
The fourth race on Day 2 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival gets underway with the Queen Mother Champion Chase at 3.30pm. One of the standout horses in that race is the Willie Mullins trained Energumene. The Irish racing trainer will be hopeful of one of his star horses claiming victory on Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival.
Mullins’ trains the current joint betting favourite in the Queen Mother Champion Chase – Energumene.
The 9-year-old gelding currently sits at odds of around 7/4 with the best horse racing betting sites. Energumene has won all but three races he has featured in. He won at the Cheltenham Festival last year in this same race, so jockey Paul Townend and trainer Willie Mullins will be hopeful of going back-to-back here in the champion Chase.
Last time out, Energumene made a slight blunder at the last fence around the Cheltenham track in January, meaning he came third behind Editeur Du Gite and Edwardstone. However, if he can avoid any mistakes this time around, he will be incredibly tough to beat in the Queen Mother yet again.
The French gelding won by eight-and-a-half-lengths last year in the Champion Chase and romped home in style. He certainly looks a strong horse and the one of the ones to beat here in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

In terms of Cheltenham odds, Energumene’s odds could well shorten as the Champion Chase race approaches. Depending on the movement in the betting market he could potentially go off as the solo betting favourite to regain his crown here for the second year running.
The Alan King trained Edwardstone and Gary Moore trained Editeur Du Gite could be Energumene’s biggest threats, along with another Mullins horse and stablemate – Gentleman De Mee.
Mullins’ 9-year-old is certainly one of the biggest names in the race and one of the most eye-catching horses running on Day 2. Fellow legendary trainer Nicky Henderson doesn’t have a runner here, but you can still check out Willie Mullins vs Nicky Henderson head-to-head racing stats and net worth by clicking the link.
