A fresh report has claimed that multi-billionaire Elon Musk is interested in making a £4.5bn move to purchase Manchester United.

According to a report, Elon Musk is believed to be monitoring the situation at Manchester United closely, as the South African is said to be interested in taking over the club.

The Glazers have set Friday as the deadline for bids to be submitted for the club. A number of parties from Saudi Arabia are believed to be making a move for the Red Devils, as well as a group of Qatari individuals.

Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe is another who is interested in purchasing the club.

Ratcliffe is a United supporter, and has already announced that he is looking to takeover the club, and has an estmated fortune of £21bn.

Forbes has Musk ranked as the second richest person on earth, with his fortune valued at £157bn, meaning he certainly has the funds for a potential takeover.

Musk completed his takeover of Twitter back in October 2022, and sent the platform into meltdown last summer with tweets about United.

“Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome” he tweeted.

Hours after posting this tweet, Musk came back with a follow-up tweet.

“No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.

“Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my (favourite) team as a kid.”

Since taking over Twitter however, Musk’s fortunes have taken a dramatic turn. The Guinness World Records claimed that Musk broke the world record for largest loss of personal fortune in history, with claims that the 51-year-old has lost approximately £150bn since November.

A takeover of Manchester United would likely make the club the most expensive sports team ever, a title currently held by the NFL’s Denver Broncos, who were bought for £3.76bn last year.
