Following today’s announcement that he will be brining the curtain down on his career, you may be wondering Eden Hazard’s age.

Despite rumours linking a club-less Eden Hazard with a new venture, the former Chelsea and Real Madrid winger has decided to retire.

The past four years in the Spanish capital have been underpinned by long stretches on the sidelines and a general lack of form, which saw him make just 76 appearances since the summer of 2019.

He brings the curtain down on a glittering career, aged 32, having made over 700 appearances for club and country.

It is a sour end to a career that was, by and large, brimming with man of the match performances. In total, the Belgian registered 324 goal involvements in 622 club appearances, and a further 33 goals in 126 national team caps.

In a heartfelt statement on social media, Hazard said: “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time.

“After 16 years and more than 700 matches played, I have decided to end my career as a professional footballer.

“I was able to realise my dream, I have played and had fun on many pitches around the world. During my career I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates — thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all.

“I also want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid; and thanks to the RBFA for my Belgian Selection. A special thank you to my family, my friends, my advisors and the people who have been close to me in good times and bad.”

Tributes have poured in from adorning fans and footballing colleagues, who are reminiscing about some of Hazard’s special fleet-footed moments for club and country.
