Chart-topping rapper Drake is backing UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards in his fight with Colby Convington at UFC 296.

Widely known to place substantial bets on big combat sport fights, Drake is wagering a hefty $250,000 on Edwards to secure a knockout victory over Covington in Saturday’s main event in Las Vegas.

UK bookmakers price this particular outcome at 15/4, so if Drake’s bet proves successful, he is set to rake in around $1.2 million.

The rapper conveyed his support for Edwards in an Instagram post with the message, “Head shot pls and thank you @leonedwardsmma”.

Edwards, in response, commented, “let’s get it.”

Drake’s recent betting fortunes took a hit when he lost $500,000 backing Israel Adesanya to knock out Sean Strickland at UFC 293, only for Strickland to win the fight via unanimous decision.

Ironically, Drake also bet on Edwards to lose against Kamaru Usman when the two fought for the welterweight title at UFC 278 back in August 2022.

Tensions between Edwards and Covington have escalated, fuelled by the latter’s remarks about Edwards’ father on Thursday during the UFC 296 press conference. This led to a heated exchange, with Edwards throwing a water bottle at Covington.

Ahead of UFC 296, after the ceremonial weigh-ins on Friday, Edwards declared to the fans that Covington is “as good as dead” in their upcoming showdown.
