Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has hailed Red Devils target Diogo Costa ahead of a rumoured summer move.

The Red Devils have been linked with Costa for several weeks, with the Porto goalkeeper’s exit in the summer looking likelier by the day.

This comes amid a poor string of performances by David de Gea. According to reports, some members of the club now want the Spaniard replaced as number one.

Dalot, who grew up with Costa, spoke out on the links, and claimed that the stopper has ‘world class’ potential.

“I grew up with him, he’s my friend, there’s a great relationship between us and I know perfectly well that he has the capacity to one day be world-class,” Dalot told Portuguese media.

“I don’t know if he’ll be at Manchester United or another big club in Europe. He shows at Porto that he is a differential goalkeeper and has helped the club a lot. If he continues there, I’ll be extremely happy. If he leaves, I hope he has the greatest success in the world.”

At just 23-years-old, Costa is one of the hottest goalkeeping prospects in Europe.

The Porto stopper has made 38 appearances in all competitions this term, keeping 19 clean sheets in the process.

Costa has also become Portgual’s first-choice goalkeeper, featuring in all five of their matches at the recent World Cup in Qatar.

During his time with Porto, Costa has won two league titles, two Portuguese cups, one Portuguese league cup, the Portuguese Super Cup, as well as a UEFA Youth League triumph with the U19 side in 2018/19.
