Davy Russell Cheltenham Rides Day 4: Four Rides On Friday
Davy Russell has won 22 races at the Cheltenham Festival over the years prior to this year and will be hoping for a few more on the final day as he rides for Gordon Elliott. He will be hoping to replicate that form with a stellar showing at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.
On Day 4, Davy Russell has four rides on Friday 17th March. These rides include Conflated, who is a 14/1 outsider in the Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase (3:30pm) for trainer Gordon Elliott.
The former Gold Cup winner with Lord Windermere also has three more rides on Day 4 along with Conflated. He takes the reigns on Pied Piper in the County Handicap Hurdle (2.10pm), as well as sitting in the saddle on Search For Glory in the Albert Bartlett (2:50pm).
His other ride comes in the penultimate race of the day aboard Riviere D’Etel in the Mares’ Chase (4.50pm).
Russell is also priced at 16/1 as the fourth favourite with leading bookmaker BoyleSports to be the 2023 Cheltenham Festival Champion Jockey.

What Horses Is Davy Russell Riding On Day 4 Of The 2023 Cheltenham Festival?
Friday 17th March 2023
PIED PIPER (County Handicap Hurdle – 14.10): @ 16/1 with BoyleSports
Davy Russell’s first ride on Day 4 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival comes in the second race of the afternoon in the County Handicap Hurdle. He rides Pied Piper who is priced as a 16/1 outsider with the best horse racing betting sites.
The British horse runs for Irish trainer Gordon Elliott, and does have form in the Festival in terms of his Cheltenham results. Pied Piper won here in January last year, before coming third in the Triumph Hurdle. He has two wins since then and is certainly worth an each-way punt here with Russell on board.
SEARCH FOR GLORY (Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle – 14.50): @ 28/1 with BoyleSports
Davy Russell’s second ride of the final day sees him in the saddle of Search For Glory in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle. This 6-year-old gelding is still looking for his first win over hurdles, but has shown signs of improving lately over the obstacles.
He has two wins and two thirds in his four racing starts, and looks a very backable each-way bet here in a very competitive race. Do not rule out Davy Russell from giving a huge ride on Search For Glory here and finishing in the places or even winning.
CONFLATED (Cheltenham Gold Cup – 15.30): @ 14/1 with BoyleSports
In terms of Cheltenham odds, Davy Russell’s third ride is seen as an 14/1 shot in the featured race on Day 4 at Cheltenham. He saddles Conflated in the Gold Cup Case, looking to win this race for the second time, just like he did on Lord Windermere back in 2014.
This looks like a tough ask for Russell on Conflated, who are up against some formidable horses such as Galopin Des Champs, A Plus Tard and Bravemansgame to name but a few. However, Conflated has shown some recent form of late with two wins, a second and third place finish in his last five starts. could be worth an each-way punt here in the Gold Cup.
RIVIERE D’ETEL (Mares’ Chase – 16.50): @ 20/1 with BoyleSports
Russell’s fourth and final ride on the final day of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival comes in the Mares’ Chase on Riviere D’Etel. This Gordon Elliott-trained has won three chases to date, and also comes here in reasonable form.
He came fifth last year at the Festival in the Arkle Novices’ Chase, but since then has a decent second and third place finish at Navan and Fairyhouse respectively. A big priced outsider but do not rule Davy Russell out from an each -way finish here on Riviere D’Etel.
