What Horses Is Davy Russell Riding On Day 3 Of The 2023 Cheltenham Festival?
Thursday 16th March 2023
MIGHTY POTTER (Turners Novices’ Chase – 13.30): @ 11/10 with BoyleSports
Davy Russell’s first ride on Day 3 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival comes in the opening race of the afternoon in the Turners Novices’ Chase. He rides Mighty Potter who is priced as the 11/10 overriding favourite with the best horse racing betting sites.
Mighty Potter is unbeaten over fences since moving on from the hurdles, and looks increasingly capable. His win last time out at Leopardstown was dominant, and another performance like that will see him win this race with relative ease. Great horse, big chance.
MAXXUM (Pertemps Handicap Hurdle – 14.10): @ 6/1 with BoyleSports
Russell’s second ride on Day 3 comes for Gordon Elliott on Maxxum in the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle. He is currently the second favourite behind Thanksforthehelp, and looks to have a strong chance here in this Grade 3 Handicap.
Maxxum has won two of his last three starts, winning at both Navan and Leopardstown at the back end of last year. Was poor last time out but has every chance here of another winner for trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Davy Russell.
FURY ROAD (Ryanair Chase – 14.50): @ 11/1 with BoyleSports
In terms of Cheltenham odds, Davy Russell’s third ride is seen as an 11/1 shot in the featured race on Day 3 at Cheltenham. He saddles Fury Road in the Ryanair Chase, looking to win this race for the second time, just like he did on Balko Des Flos back in 2018.
He is the fourth favourite in this one, but does have some strong form coming into the race with two wins, a second and three thirds in his last nine starts. Came third in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle back in 202 here at Cheltenham and will be looking for hs first Festival win this time in the featured race.
TEAHUPOO (Stayers’ Hurdle – 15.30): @ 7/2 with BoyleSports
Russell’s fourth ride on Day 3 comes in the Stayers’ Hurdle where he takes the reigns on Teahupoo. He is currently priced as the second favourite at 7/2 and has some strong form coming into this race to back that up.
He has two wins in his last two starts at Fairyhouse and Gowran Park respectively, and looks a real strong horse for Gordon Elliott. Great chance for Davy Russell to pick up a winner here on Day 3 with Teahupoo.
HALKA DU TABERT (Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle – 16.50): @ 12/1 with BoyleSports
Last but not least, Davy Russell’s fifth and final ride on Day 3 comes in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle in the form of Halka Du Tabert. This race looks like it’s Luccia’s to lose here, but Haka Du Tabert is certainly one of the outsiders who could play a huge part in this one.
In his four racing starts to date, Halka Du Tabert has three wins and a runner-up, showing that she certainly has the credentials to win this race and put it right up to the Nicky Henderson trained Luccia in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle.
