Davy Russell With Four Rides On Cheltenham Day 2

Davy Russell has won 22 races at the Cheltenham Festival over the years and will be hoping for a few more this year as he rides for Gordon Elliott. This year, he will be hoping to replicate that form with a stellar showing at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.

On Day 2, Davy Russell has four rides on Wednesday 15th March. These rides include American Mike, who is a 33/1 outsider in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle in the very first race of the afternoon on Day 2.

The former Gold Cup winner with Lord Windermere also has three more rides on day two along with American Mike. He takes the reigns on Sa Fureur in the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle, as well as sitting in the saddle on No time To Wait in the Champion Bumper.

His other ride on Day 2 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival come in the form of Galvin in the Cross Country Chase. This is by far Russell’s biggest chance on Day 2.

Russell is also priced at 9/1 as one of the favourites with leading bookmaker BoyleSports to be the 2023 Cheltenham Festival Champion Jockey.

What Horses Is Davy Russell Riding On Day 2 Of The 2023 Cheltenham Festival?

Wednesday 15th March 2023

AMERICAN MIKE (Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle – 13.30): @ 33/1 with BoyleSports

Davy Russell’s first ride on Day 2 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival comes in the opening race of the afternoon in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. He rides American Mike who is priced as a 33/1 outsider with the best horse racing betting sites.

American Mike had a strong year in 2022 with a win, two seconds and third place finish, but didn’t look great on his sole race of the year so far. However, he did come second in the Champion Bumper last year at the Festival, so has Cheltenham pedigree and has ran well here in the past.

SA FUREUR (Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle – 14.50): @ 18/1 with BoyleSports

The Irish jockey’s second ride comes in the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle where he saddles Sa Fureur. This Gordon Elliott-trained 6-year-old is a big outsider here, but is in great form and could have a great each-way chance.

This is a highly competitive race, so backing Sa Fureur each-way could be a wise bet. He has won his last three races on the spin, and is looking to make that four in a row over hurdles. You wouldn’t put it past Russell give Sa Fureur a big ride here and winning as a an outsider in the Coral Cup.

GALVIN (Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase – 16.10): @ 5/2 with BoyleSports

In terms of Cheltenham odds, Davy Russell’s third ride is by far his biggest chance of a winner on Day 2. He takes the reigns aboard Galvin in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase who is currently the second favourite behind stablemate Delta Work.

Galvin came fourth in the Gold Cup last year and put in a decent ride on that day. He has shown he can hang in this company, and has every chance here in the Cross Country for trainer Gordon Elliott.

This horse and jockey are well acquainted with each other, and have a phenomenal chance of picking up a victory here on Day 2 in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase.

NO TIME TO WAIT (Champion Bumper – 17.30): @ 40/1 with BoyleSports

Russell’s fourth and final ride on Day 2 comes in the final race of the afternoon in the Champion Bumper. He sits in the saddle on No Time To Wait, who is a 40/1 outsider to claim victory here in a race historically dominated by trainer Willie Mullins.

Again, this is a highly competitive race and you could certainly make a case for a few different horses. However, No Time To Wait did win last time out at Down Royal by 15 lengths, so if he can replicate that form, Russell could well be on course of picking up another winner at Cheltenham here.
