What Horses Is Davy Russell Riding On Day 1 Of The 2023 Cheltenham Festival?

Tuesday 14th March 2023

DOCTOR BRAVO (Supreme Novices’ Hurdle – 13.30): @ 22/1 with BoyleSports

Davy Russell’s first ride of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival comes in the opening race of the afternoon in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. He rides Doctor Bravo who is priced as a 22/1 outsider with the best horse racing betting sites.

Doctor Bravo boasts some good form with two wins, a second and third place finish in his last four starts. He is up against it here against the likes of Facile Vega and Marine Nationale, but could be a good each-way bet in the first race on Day 1.

HOLLOW GAMES (Arkle Novices’ Chase – 14.10): @ 40/1 with BoyleSports

Hollow Games is Russell’s second ride on Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival in the Arkle Novices’ Chase at 2.10pm. He is priced as a huge 40/1 outsider with the best Cheltenham odds in a race that looks to be a shootout between Nicky Henderson and Willie Mullins with El Fabiolo and Jonbon as the two betting favourites.

Hollow Games has raced at the Cheltenham Festival once before, finishing in third last year in the Conditional Jockey’s Handicap Hurdle. Russell will need to produce an almighty ride if he is to have any chance here on Hollow Games in the Arkle.

THE GOFFER (Ultima Handicap Chase – 14.50): @ 18/1 with BoyleSports

The Goffer is yet another outsider that Davy Russell is riding on Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival. He is priced at 18/1 to win the Ultima Handicap Chase at 2.50pm on Tuesday afternoon.

This is a bit more of an open race, so Russell has every chance of pulling off a win here at a big price. The Goffer boasts good form with two wins, a second and third in his last four starts.

ZANAHIYR (Champion Hurdle – 15.30): @ 100/1 with BoyleSports

Zanahiyr is Russell’s penultimate ride on Day 1 in the Champion Hurdle for trainer Gordon Elliott. He is priced at a huge 100/1 and is highly unlikely to feature here.

Constitution Hill dominates the betting market at short odds of 4/11 for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville, so it will take an absolutely miraculous run from Zanahiyr to feature in the Champion Hurdle here at 3.30pm.

QUEENS BROOK (Mares’ Hurdle – 16.10): @ 20/1 with BoyleSports

Davy Russell’s fifth and final ride on Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival comes in the Mares’ Hurdle at 4.10pm. He takes to the saddle aboard Queens Brook, who is priced as a 20/1 outsider in this race.

Despite being a huge price, Queens Brook does have some good form going into this race with two wins, two seconds and a third place finish in her last five racing starts. Again, this will be a tough gig for Russell who is up against some stellar horses in the shape of Marie’s Rock, Honeysuckle, Epatante and Brandy Love to name but a few.
