David Moyes Conference League Success
Last season David Moyes picked up his third trophy as a manager, but definitely his biggest one to date as he led his West Ham team to Conference League success.
With a team spearheaded by big names such as Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen, Moyes took Hammers fans on an incredible journey to European glory in what was otherwise a below par season.
West Ham finished 14th in the Premier League after a disappointing season, but their European success is arguably what kept Moyes his job after ending a trophy drought at the club that dated back to 2006.
Moyes’ side looked comfortable throughout in the new competition and with six wins from six in a perfect group stage, they immediately asserted themselves as favourites to win the title with dominant performance after dominant performance.
Following the group stages, West Ham swiftly dispatched of AEK Larnaca, Gent and AZ Alkmaar, which earned them a spot in the Conference League final against Fiorentina.
The Hammers won the trophy with a 2-1 win over their Serie A opponents, to remain unbeaten in the competition to win it in impressive fashion for the first time.
Their Conference League win meant that Weest Ham qualified for this years Europa League, which was a massive relief to David Moyes whose job was arguably on the line towards the end of the year.
Life Before West Ham
David Moyes kicked off his career at Preston where he managed for four years before leaving to the club that made him famous, with Premier League side Everton snapping up the boss in 2002.
Moyes managed Everton for 11 years, taking charge of 518 games for the Toffees during what was a tough period for the Merseyside club. It was in 2013 that Moyes eventually left Everton, with Manchester United calling for the manager’s big break in England.
Unfortunately for Moyes he was just one name in a long list of unsuccessful managers to take charge since Sir Alex Ferguson left the cub, but the pressure on the United manager was just too much when taking over from the most successful Premier League manager of all time.
Moyes lasted just under a year in charge of the Red Devils before he was sacked, which was when he decided to take his expertise abroad for the first time – to manage La Liga side Real Sociedad.
After a brief stint in Spain Moyes returned to England to take charge of Sunderland in 2016, but yet again the manager was unsuccessful as the Black Cats were relegated from the Premier League after finishing dead last.
The Scotsman then took the helm at West Ham for a year before he was sacked, but just over a year later Moyes was re-hired by the Hammers and he has been in charge ever since.
