West Ham’s David Moyes is the latest name to be chucked into the ring as the first manager to be sacked for the upcoming Premier League season after a dire summer transfer window for the London club – and after a fresh rumoured row with the Hammer’s board – Moyes is now into odds of 6/4 (from 8/1) and the new favourite in this market.

First Manager To Be Sacked Odds: David Moyes Cut to 6/4 (from 8/1) After Poor Transfer Window and Row With The Board

West Ham offloaded their star man Declan Rice to London neighbours Arsenal for a record £105m, but the Hammers are having trouble spending the money.

There are gossips that boss David Moyes is finding it hard to agree with West Ham’s new technical director Tim Steidten on replacements for Rice and time is running out before the start of the new season next weekend.

With Moyes having a history of being in the driving seat when it comes to signings, the introduction of the German over the summer is apparently causing tensions. While there are fresh rumours that Moyes have now also had a row with the West Ham board about the lack of recruitment.

Last season Moyes was mentioned many times when it came to the Premier League sack race betting odds, but the former Manchester United man managed to keep his job – thanks to guiding the Hammers to win their first trophy for 43 years, the Europa Conference League.

However, many feel he might not be so lucky this season.

West Ham Are Yet To Replace Declan Rice

It’s reported that Moyes and West Ham have made summer offers for the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Conor Gallagher and Scott McTominay, who would all be in the running to fill the Declan Rice boots. However, deals are yet to be done for any of these British trio – while Harvey Barnes was another fancied target, but the Hammers lost his signature to Newcastle.

Plus, behind the scenes, Moyes has also waved goodbye to Mark Warburton and Paul Nevin from his backroom staff over the summer, so this coupled with the poor transfer window are enough reasons for some shrewd football punters to be latching onto David Moyes @ 6/4 (from 8/1) with Paddy Power to be the first Premier League manager to be sacked.

West Ham’s first game of the new Premier League season is away to Bournemouth on Saturday 12th August.

West Ham Finished 14th Last Season

West Ham finished 14th last season in the Premier League with 40 points and only 6 points (2 wins) away from Leicester City, who were relegated.

Julen Lopetegui Another Favourite In The First Manager To Be Sacked Betting Market

Despite the recent move in the ‘Next Premier League Manager to be Sacked’ market for David Moyes, the best football betting sites are still making Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui the favourite to get the boot first @ 2/1 with Paddy Power.

Lopetegui was appointed head coach at Wolverhampton Wanderers in November 2022 and even though they avoided the drop last season only bagged 41 points and finished 13th.

This means Wolves were only 7 points off the relegation places but were also the lowest scoring side from all of the 20 Premier League teams last term.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ first game of the season is away to Manchester United on Monday 14th August.

Premier League 2023/24: First Manager To Get Sacked - Julen Lopetegui

Julen Lopetegui and Wolves are set to operate within the straightjacket of Financial Fair Play rules this season, which is bound to leave their Spanish coach frustrated. In order to balance the books, the West Midlands outfit have already sold star midfielder Ruben Neves to the highest bidder and Republic of Ireland defender Nathan Collins to Brentford at the time of writing.

Not only that, but Wolves have released musclebound winger Adama Traore and veteran duo Diego Costa and Joao Moutinho. Conor Coady has also left Molineux permanently following an unsuccessful loan spell with Everton by joining relegated Leicester City.

Lopetegui is an ambitious coach and it’s hard to see how his current employers can really match what he wants to achieve on a shoestring budget. Wanderers scored just 31 goals in the Premier League last term, the lowest of any in the division.

Addressing that whilst the purse-strings tighten in the Molineux boardroom is going to be a challenge. There’s a real danger that Wolves may get lost in the shuffle and no guarantee of replicating last season’s ultimately comfortable mid-table finish, especially with such a tough run of fixtures to start the new campaign.

Although Lopetegui helped Wanderers belie the infamous stat of being bottom at Christmas and not staying up, chances are he won’t be in the job if the club experiences similar struggles this season. He’ll either quit in a fit of pique over the strictures or be moved on by owners that may be forced into remodelling their club like Leicester.
