Darwin Nunez has been subjected to a wave of criticism after his side slumped to a lacklustre defeat in West London to kick off 2023, as Brentford put a hapless Liverpool side to the sword running out eventual 3-1 victors.
Much of the post-match talk has surrounded the Red’s lack of intensity in midfield, which is a far cry from their unrelenting high-press and table-topping exploits in recent seasons.
However, summer acquisition Darwin Nunez, who set the club back a cool £85m, suffered another frustrating night in front of goal.
Although he has displayed a natural ability to drift into goalscoring positions, as well as link up the forward play to great effect in recent weeks, the Uruguayan drew blank yet again against Brentford following a string of missed chances, as well as registering a goal that was chalked off for offside.
Of course, the rest of the league have been busy throwing digs his way, but popular pizza chain Domino’s have chimed in with a jab of their own which will certainly have been the cause of a dip in orders on Merseyside last night.

He also attempted 23 shots in his first five away games in the Premier League, the most of anyone in that period, but only managed to convert just two in the process.
Five goals in 13 games is certainly not a bad record by any means, but his relatively poor contribution as a striker, coupled with a hefty transfer fee has left Liverpool fans frustrated at what could otherwise be a fruitful addition to the forward line.
At 23, the tenacious winger has plenty of time to rectify his spotty goalscoring form as of late, but Liverpool will need their marquee summer signing to be firing on all cylinders if they are to claw their way back into contention for a Champions League spot.
