Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has bemoaned Arsenal’s extraordinary season at the Premier League summit, and says he ‘feels sick’ seeing their North London rivals reach new heights.

While the Gunners enjoy arguably their most successful Premier League season in well over a decade, Tottenham have endured a turbulent second-half to theirs.

Antonio Conte’s acrimonious rant triggered a self-inflicted exit, before director of football Fabio Patrici stepped down from his role amid an investigation into false accounting while working at Juventus.

This has ultimately left Spurs in a period of limbo – no manager, no clear sporting direction, and three points off Champions League qualification having played a game more than those around them.

Coupled with a whole host of Europe’s elite also in the market for a new head honcho, including Chelsea, PSG and possibly Real Madrid, they may struggle to attract the names on their managerial shortlist.

Daniel Levy will have to try and navigate this latest period of uncertainty, and admitted that Tottenham’s trophy-baron run throughout his time at the top, is a record that causes him and the club great frustration.

He said in a rare interview at the Cambridge Union last month: “Obviously the ultimate is to win trophies and that is clearly what we are trying to do, it’s easier said than done.

“Am I happy about the fact we have won one trophy in the last 15 years? Absolutely not.”

Although he admitted that Arsenal’s season-long occupancy of top spot makes him “feel sick”, he takes comfort in the fact that their North London rivals last finished above them way back in 2015/16, when Leicester claimed the trophy, and themselves reached a Champions League final in that time frame.

“I also think we have had some fantastic times, we have been in the Champions League a number of times, and despite the fact that I feel sick that there is a club in North London who is a bit higher than us at this moment in time, I look back at the last five years and we have also been above them.”
