Newcastle United have shown an interest in signing Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen as the club prepares for a return of Champions League football to St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe is keen to add depth in all areas of the pitch with a lot more games to be played next season with European football added to their schedule.

The 27-year-old joined Palace from Lyon for £17m in 2021 after he impressed during a season-long loan at London rivals Fulham.

Since then Andersen has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League attracting interest from a number of clubs including Newcastle.

According to reports, Newcastle have enquired about the Denmark international. However, the Eagles will likely demand a big fee for the centre-back who still has three years left on his contract.

The Magpies have set their sights on Andersen after their pursuit for Napoli defender Kim Min-jae fell through. Kim had been linked with a move to St James’ Park however Bayern Munich swooped in to hijack the deal.

Newcastle boss Howe has been told that he only has £75m to spend this summer, and with sights set on other targets the price may be too high for Andersen to make the move up north.

Sandro Tonali is also of interest to Newcastle in a bid to bolster their midfield, alongside multiple targets.
