SportsLens Head of News Lee Astley said: “Newcastle United face an extra burden this season with their inclusion in the Champions League and Eddie Howe will be keen to add reinforcements in January to bolster his squad depth.
“A blockbuster move for Al-Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo is very much on the cards, priced at 4/1 to make the switch to Tyneside. We know how much he loves the Champions League and he’ll be keen to preserve his records in the competition.
“The favourites to join Newcastle in January are Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton – both of which would provide a steady hand as the Magpies battle a number of injury problems.
“Sporting Lisbon winger Pedro Goncalves has been named as a possible target whilst Emile Smith Rowe is also an enticing prospect, but they’ll have to fight off rumoured interest from Aston Villa for his signature.
“Eddie Howe may look in the Premier League for some proven talent and the likes of Lucas Paqueta, Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, Joachim Andersen and Jadon Sancho have been touted as possible additions.
“Brentford striker Ivan Toney will return from an eight-month ban for breaching FA betting rules in January and sees his odds of joining Newcastle at 20/1, with the transfer looking unlikely at this moment due to Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson’s promising form.”
