Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that his move to Saudi Arabia earlier this year has opened up “a box” for other players to make the switch and join him in the Middle East.

Ronaldo controversially left Manchester United before signing a staggering £175million-a-year deal at Al-Nassr.

Since the move, the Saudi Pro League has rapidly become a more popular destination with some of Europe’s biggest stars making the switch, with many more linked.

Lionel Messi was close to a move to Saudi Arabia after weeks of speculation over a move to Al-Hilal, but in the end signed for MLS outfit Inter Miami.

N’Golo Kante is another player on his way to the Saudi Pro League, and is close to completing a move to Al-Ittihad. The Frenchman will sign a £172m deal at the club over two years.

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has already completed a move to Al-Ittihad in a deal worth £258 million, becoming the biggest coup for the Saudi Pro League since Ronaldo’s arrival.

Ronaldo Makes Saudi Pro League Claim

Ronaldo has been speaking to the media about the Saudi Pro League…

“I knew that me going to Saudi Arabia would open a box and I wasn’t wrong,” admitted Ronaldo.

“I’m sure in a couple of years or three, this league is going to be one of the most important leagues in the world.

“Karim left already and I am 1000 per cent sure that many more players will.”

Riyad Mahrez is one of the latest to be rumoured to have been offered a deal in the Middle East. However, the Algerian will seek to help Manchester City win a monumental treble by lifting the Champions League trophy this weekend.
