Bookmaker BetMGM announced back in October they would be taking over the sponsorship reins for the Grade One Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle and they will be ‘champing at the bit’ with the news that last year’s winner Constitution Hill remains on target to run.

The unbeaten Champion Hurdler used the Fighting Fifth Hurdle to start his campaign last season – with a facile 12-length win over his stablemate Epatante – and after adding the Christmas Hurdle, the Champion Hurdle and Aintree Hurdle to his CV later that season is now 7-from-7 over hurdles.

Constitution Hill 4/9 For The 2023 Champion Hurdle

Constitution Hill is also on offer at 4/9 with BetMGM for the Champion Hurdle at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival as he looks to join the likes Honeysuckle and Buveur D’Air as recent ‘back-to-back’ winners of the race.

While, despite only having one Champion Hurdle win to his name, many feel the Henderson 6 year-old, who has time on his side, can become the winning-most horse in the race.

If he’s to do that Constitution Hill will need four wins with Hatton’s Grace, Sir Ken, Persian War, See You Then and Istabraq all three-time winners.

Trainer Nicky Henderson loves to start his star hurdlers off in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle – with eight wins over the years – and so it’s no surprise he’s the winning-most handler in the history of the race.

Henderson’s first success in the Newcastle contest came in 2001 with Landing Light, while his most recent was, of course, last year with the already-mentioned Constitution Hill.
