Former England frontman Chris Sutton has backed Manchester City to beat Champions League ‘masters’ Real Madrid and to lift the trophy for the first time ahead of this evening’s clash.

The Champions League‘s first finalist of the year was decided on Tuesday evening, as Inter secured a 3-0 aggregate win over city-rivals Milan.

Who will join them is yet to be decided, with Manchester City facing off against Real Madrid this evening.

It is all to play for the Etihad Stadium, after a 1-1 stalemate at the Santiago Bernabeu last week.

Manchester City are looking to reach the final for the second time in their history, and to win the iconic trophy for the first-time ever.

The competition’s most successful side, Real Madrid are looking to earn their 15th triumph in the tournament, which would see them retain their title from last season.

Chris Sutton, who is commentating on Manchester City vs Real Madrid for BBC Radio 5 Live tonight, has delivered his prediction for the clash.

“My feeling always has been this is the one Pep Guardiola was brought in for, the Champions League,” Sutton said.

“They’ve been absolutely brilliant but this is the one they really want. They’ve found an incredible way in the last five or six years of getting themselves into good positions in the Champions League and messing it up.

“Tonight is going to be really interesting. Madrid are masters of finding a way to win this competition. It’s very difficult to call.

“City will play the way they always play, I just wonder whether in this competition if there is a psychological situation here, a bit of a mental block they don’t have in other competitions.

“They had the game won in Madrid last year before Rodrygo. Pep tinkered too much in the final against Chelsea without a holding midfielder.

“Every season you think City will win it and every year they cruise through their group stages, get to a good position and you think this will be their year. I think they will win it it. But based on the last six seasons under Pep, who knows?”
