Cheltenham Festival 2023: Who Is Racing On St Patrick’s Thursday?

Although St Patrick’s Day is traditionally celebrated on the 17th of March, Cheltenham Festival officially host the festivities on day three of the festival which is the 16th.

St Patrick’s Day always falls in March during Cheltenham week and although next Friday will be the day the Irish celebrate, the Thursday of the festival is the day that is officially labelled as St Patrick’s day.

The Thursday of Cheltenham Festival is officially called St Patrick’s Thursday and racegoers will be able to enjoy the prospect of the Ryanair Chase and Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle, where endurance and stamina reign.

Last year St Patrick’s day did in fact fall on the Thursday of Cheltenham and racing enthusiasts travelled from all around the world to listen to the Cheltenham roar on the day, which was made even more special by the Irish.
