Rafael Leao, who has long been linked with a move to Premier League club Chelsea, has penned a new five-year contract with Serie A side AC Milan.

AC Milan have confirmed that Rafael Leao has renewed his contract with the club, signing on for another five years.

Despite being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea reportedly holding an avid interest, the Portuguese forward has opted to extend his stay in Milan.

The club confirmed that their star man had signed on until June 2028 in a statement.

“AC Milan is pleased to announce that Rafael Alexandre da Conceição Leão has renewed his contract with the Club until 30 June 2028.” the statement read.

“Since joining in the summer of 2019, Rafa boasts 162 appearances, 41 goals and 29 assists for the Rossoneri, and was named “Best Player in Serie A” last season.

“AC Milan and Rafael continue their journey together.”

Not only had Leao been linked to Chelsea, but also to fellow London club Arsenal.

Milan were reportedly looking for a fee upwards of £100million to part ways with their talented forward, but hoped to keep him for the forseeable future and beyond next season.

Leao himself has also previously expressed his admiration for the Premier League – which sparked even more links in the media to the English top flight.

“Anyone would like to play in the Premier League because it’s a very competitive league.” he said in an interview.

“It has engaging football, great teams and a worldwide audience. Serie A is currently very well positioned in international football… the Premier League in the future.”
