In the latest Chelsea transfer news, the Blues have reportedly opened talks in an attempt to convince Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia to sign for them this summer.

According to a report, Chelsea have opened talks with Southampton over the potential transfer of Romeo Lavia this summer.

The Blues have long held an interest in the young Belgian claim Football Insider, and have reportedly held talks with the midfielder over the last two months.

Lavia has only been contracted to Southampton for a year, but now, with their relegation all but confirmed – he looks set to bring his five-year deal to an early end.

Chelsea believe that a fee upwards of £45m will be enough to secure the midfielder’s services despite the fact that he still has four years remaining on his contract.

Manchester City also have a buy back clause in his contract, which becomes active in the summer of 2024.

Lavia’s impressive performances since arriving on the south coast haven’t just alerted Chelsea.

The Belgian has reportedly garnered interest from Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool as well as the Stamford Bridge club.

During his time with the Saints this term, Lavia has made 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and assisting once in the process.

His stunning performances has also seen him be rewarded at international level.

In March, Lavia received his maiden senior Belgium call-up and made his debut in a friendly against Germany.

The Blues’ interest comes as N’Golo Kante‘s Chelsea career nears and end, with Todd Boehly now tasked with securing the signature of a long-term successor for the Frenchman.
