Five successive defeats across all competitions is not the fresh start Frank Lampard was hoping to bring when taking over as interim manager, and last night’s lacklustre result at home to Brentford signalled a sixth goalless game in their previous seven. With prospects looking increasingly bleak for the Blues, we are taking a look at the most up-to-date Premier League bottom half odds, to see where bookmakers believe Chelsea will finish.

Premier League Bottom-Half Odds

Despite enjoying 73% possession and double the amount of chances than their West London counterparts, Chelsea were put to the sword by Brentford, who scored in either half to secure a relatively straightforward 2-0 win.

And so, the dark cloud looms ever larger over Stamford Bridge, with very little prospects other than to try and clamber into the top half by the season’s close.

The puzzling mystery of goals, or lack thereof, continues to plague this astronomically expensive squad – not even the biggest single-season spending spree ever can buy you results.

Another goal-baron game means they are now just two games off equalling an unfortunate club record from the 1980/81 season, where they failed to score in 21 different matches.

This latest defeat also extends their worse losing streak since 1993 to five games, but perhaps the most telling state of affairs is their 12 Premier League defeats out of a possible 27 since Thomas Tuchel’s departure in September 2022. This is one more than the Blues registered across the German’s 20-month tenure.

Lampard, who has won just once in his previous 19 games as a manager for Everton and Chelsea, will have to attempt to gel his band of disillusioned individuals with six games left to play.

Immediately on the horizon are Arsenal, who the Blues may believe can be exploited having gone four consecutive games without victory, which culminated in a 4-1 drubbing against title rivals Manchester City.

Elsewhere, relegation-threatened duo Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest will present tough tasks as both will be scrapping for their survival, before consecutive away trips to Manchester City and Manchester United usher in the final day of the season – a home fixture against Newcastle.

They will have identified Bournemouth and Forest as must-wins if they are to finish in the top half of the table, but they come up against all of the current top-four in their final run-in.

This has seen their bottom-half odds cut all the way down to 2/9 – grim reading for Chelsea fans.
