The latest Chelsea injury update from boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that forward Christoper Nkunku and midfielder Romeo Lavia are in ‘good condition’ after an extended spell on the sidelines.

Nkunku joined the Blues in the summer from RB Leipzig and was injured against Borussia Dortmund in a pre-season friendly, ruling the Frenchman out for months. Lavia, a summer addition from Southampton, damaged ankle ligaments in training and just like Nkunku, is yet to make his debut for the west Londoners.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Quotes

“Lavia and Nkunku are still out. it’s difficult to assess them. They are in a good condition. Nkunku is ahead of Lavia and was doing things with the group last week but has not recovered fully to be part of the squad,” Pochettino confirmed on Friday ahead of the trip to Newcastle.

“Last week, in few training sessions, still he’s not fully recovered to be part of the tactical sessions. He’s a fantastic player that was the top scorer in the Bundesliga and he can play in different positions. Really bad luck to lose him for the beginning of the season. Step by step we will find the best way for him to fit in the team. He needs to build his form and be in his best XI to then compete with players,” the Blues boss went on to say about Nkunku.

When Will Nkunku And Lavia Return?

Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia are still a little way off making their Chelsea debuts, as confirmed by Mauricio Pochettino, but it is likely both players will be pulling on the blue jersey sometime around the festive period. Pochettino’s side have been derailed with a whole host of injuries so far this season so news of the pairs return will be a huge boost to the club.

On the pitch, Chelsea have struggled in the 2023/24 Premier League but can boast an impressive eight goals in their last two games. The latest being the thrilling 4-4 draw with Manchester City before the international break and prior to that, they cruised past nine-man Tottenham 4-1. If the Blues can keep up their good form, they could be a force to be reckoned with once again with Nkunku and Lavia in the side.
