Chelsea face a huge summer clear out in a bid to comply with the Premier League‘s Financial Fair Play rules, after recording an £121 million loss for last season.
Since Todd Boehly arrived at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have been on a major spending spree, splashing out almost £600 million on new players over the past two transfer windows.
And, after recording a loss of $121 million last season, several players may need chopping in the summer. Given the fact that they may miss out on Champions League football next season, they must find a way to balance the books.
🔎 If Chelsea do not qualify for the Champions League, Europa League or Europa Conference League — and given they are 10th in the Premier League table that is a strong possibility — then they will NOT be under UEFA’s jurisdiction for FFP next season. (Times) #CFC

Graham Potter’s side sit in tenth place in the Premier League, and are 11 points off the top four, and with Real Madrid to come in the quarter-finals of the UCL, there is potential for a huge drop off in European revenue.
Expert Explains Chelsea Financial Fair Play Problems
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has explained what kind of effect this could have on the club.
“Failing to qualify for the Champions League would put Chelsea in a really challenging position.
“The one thing you can say about Chelsea is that they have lots of players they can sell and lots have come through the academy. If you look at Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Callum Hudson-Odoi they could sell them and make a big profit.
“They have got far too many players,
“The challenge for them, (Romelu) Lukaku is on a quarter of a million a week, and his contract doesn’t expire until 2026. Some of the players that have come in are on big contracts. They are effectively locking themselves into a £100k-£150k a week on these players for many, many years,
“If the player doesn’t do well, who is going to take them off Chelsea’s hands? That is when the problems start to crystalise.”
