Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has admitted that he’d like to return to Brazil to play for former club Fluminense one day, however his children stand in the way.

Thiago Silva has publicly admitted that he’d like to return to Brazil to play for former club Fluminense.

Silva, who was Chelsea‘s Player of the Year last season, has one-year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge after extending his terms in February.

Currently out in the United States for pre-season, Silva could make his first appearance under Mauricio Pochettino as they face off against the likes of Wrexham, Brighton, Newcastle, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund.

The 38-year-old had been rumoured by Brazilian media to join Fluminense last year, however after signing new terms with Chelsea – fans of the South American side sent abusive messages to the defender on Instagram.

Speaking to Brazilian news outlet O Globo, Silva first explained how he wasn’t happy with the rumours created in the media.

“Now, at the end of the season, some annoying things happened, and I was very upset because it seems that they threw me against the fans: ‘Thiago will come back’ [to Fluminense]. At no time did I say that I would return this year, not least because I had renewed with Chelsea two months before.

“The news started to come out, nobody denied anything, and the fans came to my Instagram cursing me. Others supporting me. That wasn’t cool and I didn’t like it, honestly. But nothing erases the love and feeling I have for Fluminense.”

Silva then went on to reveal his ambition of one day returning to play for his former side in his native country

“Everyone knows how much I would like to return to Fluminense, but today it’s hard to talk to my family [about it] because my children don’t want to live in Brazil.” Silva said.

“It’s a very complicated situation, but we still have a year to reflect and understand what we’re going to do next year.”
