Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Romeo Lavia from Southampton on a seven-year contract in a deal worth upwards of £58million, adding further quality to Mauricio Pochettino’s ranks in midfield.

Romeo Lavia has finally completed his move to Chelsea on a seven-year contract, in a deal reported to be worth upwards of £58million.

Liverpool had offered £6omillion to sign the Belgian, however he opted for the Blues and they will now pay a reported £53million up front, as well as £5million in add-ons.

Lavia follows Moises Caicedo through the door at Stamford Bridge, after the Ecuadorian signed for a British record £115million fee from Brighton earlier in the week, boosting Mauricio Pochettino’s options in midfield.

Upon completing his move to the English capital, Lavia revealed his excitement at getting started with the two-time Champions League winners.

“I’m really happy join Chelsea and be a part of this exciting project. It’s an amazing football club with a great history and I’m really excited to get started.

“I can’t wait to meet all my new team-mates and build a chemistry together to achieve great things together.”

Chelsea’s co-directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart also commented on Lavia’s arrival, highlighting how important the 19-year-old will be for the club going forward.

“We are very pleased to welcome Romeo to Chelsea. He demonstrated his quality in the Premier League last season at Southampton, showing maturity despite his young age, and is a player we have monitored for some time.

“We believe he is ready to make an impact at Chelsea throughout the current campaign, and in the coming years.”
