The Evening Standard have reported that Chelsea are now strong contenders for the signature of Napoli goalscorer Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea are said to be looking for a physical forward, with Osimhen being the ideal suitor.

They hold the belief that securing the Nigerian’s signature would allow them to compete with Manchester City‘s unstoppable goal-getter Erling Haaland.

After a poor season in front of goal, Chelsea are desperate for a consistent scorer. The Blues have managed just 29 Premier League goals this term, not even half as much as Arsenal or Manchester City.

Manchester United are also believed to be keen in Osimhen, but are prioritising Harry Kane.

Graham Potter’s side may have an edge over the Red Devils in pursuit of his transfer however. Osimhen’s hero growing up was none other than Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, with the young Nigerian having been pictured in a Blues shirt whilst growing up in Lagos.

Agreeing a fee for the forward may be a problem for Todd Boehly though.

Napoli are said to be a difficult club to deal with in the transfer window, with the club looking for £88m – £132m for their talisman.

Of course, Chelsea can afford this, as seen in the last two transfer windows. The problem lies with the club now being on the UEFA financial watchlist, and they must offload a number of assets this summer if they want to compete in the transfer window.
