Championship Outright 2023/24: Leicester City

Following their shock relegation from the Premier League, it comes as no surprise to see Leicester City as the favourite to bounce straight back and win the Championship this season.

Ahead of the upcoming Championship season, the Foxes appointed Enzo Marcesca as their new manager. The Italian was Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City last season, which saw the best side in English football win the treble. They won the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.

Now, Marcesca is the new boss at Leicester, looking to get them straight back to the promised land at the first time of asking. The Foxes have recruited several proven Premier League players and former England internationals such as Conor Coady and Harry Winks.

They have also sold the likes of James Maddison and Youri Tielemans for big money, so will have the biggest budget in the Championship, of that there is no doubt. The 2016 Premier League winners look to have the strongest squad on paper heading into the new season, with promotion the ultimate goal come May next year.

Should the likes of Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes and others remain at Leicester, they have every chance of winning the Championship this season – just like they did last time they were in the second tier in 2013/14.

Leeds United Championship Winner Odds @ 13/2

Leeds United suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, following three seasons in the top flight after their 16-year hiatus from the First Division.

Former Norwich City boss, Daniel Farke, who guided the Canaries to the Premier League on two occasions, was recently appointed as the new manager at Elland Road. The Yorkshire football giants have a decent squad at their disposal this season, despite losing players such as Rodrigo, Weston McKinnie, Brendan Aaronson and Marc Roca.

Players like Patrick Bamford, Tyler Adams, Crysencio Summerville, Willie Gnotto and Luis Sinisterra could certainly help Leeds gain immediate promotion back to the Premier League this year.

It comes as no surprise to see Leeds as one of the hot betting favourites to gain promotion heading into the upcoming 2023/24 Championship season. Not only that, but they are second favourites to win the Championship title outright.

Of course, the last time Leeds United were in the Championship was back in the 2019/20 season. The Yorkshire club won the title with 93 points, securing promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

Southampton Championship Winner Odds @ 15/2

Southampton’s 11-year stint in the Premier League ended last season as they finished bottom of the pile, accumulating just 25 points and winning just six matches all season.

They go into the 2023/24 Championship season as the third favourites with the best Championship betting sites to gain immediate promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

The Saints have added some quality players to their squad for the upcoming season. Northern Ireland international and former Manchester City youngster, Shea Charles, has signed for Saints. Ryan Manning has also arrived from Swansea City on a free transfer.

Despite losing players like Theo Walcott, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Mislav Orsic, Southampton, so far, have kept the majority of their star players. Most notable, James Ward-Prowse is still at the club, as are the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters, Joe Aribo, Adam Armstrong and Che Adams.

Russell Martin was appointed the new Saints boss ahead of the new season, having previously managed Swansea for the past two seasons. It comes as no shock to see Saints amongst the favourites to lift the Championship title come May. Do not rule out an immediate return to the promised land.

Championship Outright Betting: The Outside Options

Several other clubs will be hopeful of not only gaining promotion to the Premier League this season, but actually going on to be crowned Championship winners. Last year’s Play-Off Final losers, Coventry City, are priced at 28/1 to win the title this season.

Clubs like Middlesbrough (10/1), Norwich (14/1), Watford (16/1) and West Brom (16/1) are also just some of the teams who will be looking for a return to the Premier League come May 2024.

Last year’s League One runners-up, Ipswich Town, may be a surprise package this season. They are priced as the fifth favourite for the Championship title at odds of 12/1. Former Manchester United assistant Will McKenna is at the helm at The Tractor Boys, who are searching for back-to-back promotions.

Rotherham United and Plymouth Argyle are priced as the two least likely teams to win the Championship at odds of 100/1 respectively.
