Matchday two of the group stage concluded on Wednesday, and in some style as Newcastle announced their European ambitions against PSG in the defining match of the round. See the latest Champions League winner odds update below to see how the markets have shifted.

Just four of the 32 teams competing in this year’s group stage boast a 100% record after two games, with Spanish champions Barcelona and current holders Manchester City joining Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

City, as is to be expected after the manner in which they clinched the treble last season, remain the warmest of favourites at 2/1 after prevailing with a somewhat flattering 3-1 win away at Leipzig, thanks to late goals from substitutes Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku.

However, the headline-grabbing fixture of matchday two will undoubtedly be Newcastle‘s 4-1 drubbing of Ligue 1 champions PSG. After a two decade-long hiatus, Champions League football finally made its return to St James’ Park in truly spectacular fashion.

A fervent, throbbing Newcastle crowd bellowed from the stands with a crescendo of noise after every goal, each louder than the last as 2020 finalists PSG were dismantled by an unrelenting home side.

It now means the Magpies, who were 33/1 before the start of the night, have had their outright price slashed down to 25/1 while the Parisians move from 14/1 down to 18/1.

Elsewhere, Barcelona look to be on their way to snapping a two-year group stage curse, with their last appearance in the knockouts coming in 2020.

Despite heading into the campaign as the Champion League’s lowest spenders, the Blaugrana have swept aside both of their opening two opponents with ease and finally look to have found their feet in Europe – they move slightly from 10/1 down to 9’s.
