Chelsea have officially beaten Liverpool to the signings of midfield duo Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, and Mauricio Pochettino claims that the pair opted for the Blues as they are ‘feeling something special’ brewing at the club.

After plenty of twists and turns throughout the transfer window, both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia are officially Chelsea players.

Caicedo joined earlier in the week for a British record fee of £115million, whilst Lavia put pen-to-paper on a seven-year deal after a £58million package fee was agreed with Southampton.

Both were heavily linked with a move to Liverpool too, as Jurgen Klopp searched for midfield reinforcements amid the departures of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner, however the pair opted for a move to the English capital.

The Reds have since settled for 30-year-old Wataru Endo from Stuttgart, who was unveiled on Friday afternoon after agreeing to a four-year contract.

Klopp has also confirmed that Liverpool’s activity in the market isn’t necessarily over with the signing of the Japanese international, amid links with Manchester United target Sofyan Amrabat and Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina.

Ahead of Chelsea’s visit to West Ham this weekend, Mauricio Pochettino claimed that both Lavia and Caicedo opted for Stamford Bridge rather than Anfield as they are ‘feeling something special’ brewing at the club.

“That is about the player’s decision. It is their decision if they come here.

“It wasn’t a competition, it was a player’s decision to join us. That makes us very happy and they talk very highly about our owners and our sporting directors in the way that they work.

“The players wanted to come here because I think they are feeling something special. I hope they are feeling something special.”
